The scariest movies of 2007 were movies that kept all of us on the edges of our seats, my top ten for the year 2007 have varied as I watched other materials that were worthy of being a part of the genre as they delivered the gore, the bloodshed, the mayhem, and the fuck with your mind tricks!
The Mist: As a faithful Stephen King reader, I knew what to expect, and I always think that the books are better than the movies, but this one was clearly a great masterpiece, it was beautifully made as the director tried his best to keep the suspense filled atmosphere as untouched as it was in the book.
It also delivered the one of a kind grotesque creatures from the Stephen King's scary closet of monsters. This movie is a great thriller, I enjoyed it very much. The Mist did something else to the genre, it unveils one of the most twisted endings ever in the horror movie genre. I was confused and left in pieces but I knew it had to end like this or I would have felt ripped off.
Dead Silence: You scream you die, is basically the scare of this thriller, this ventriloquist will try her best to scare the jeepers creepers out of you, it’s your best bet to keep from screaming because if you do, she’s got you…
you become the newest addition to her dummy collections. Dead Silence is one of the creepiest movies of this year and I have the feeling that there will be a numero dos.
1408: This movie is not as suspenseful as the book was but it brought out all the elements of a perfect scare.
I especially liked this line when John Cusack's character was stuck in the hotel room, bound to relive the sordid hour over if he does not end his own life… and the phone rang, a female voice was at the other end and said: ”In our hotel we believe in free will, or you can choose to use our express checkout…” and they showed us a rope hanging from the ceiling with the loop already made and a chair underneath it, that was so freakishly disturbing! I just adore the demented mind of Stephen King!
Hostel Part II: Just like the prequel, it’s grotesquely scary, you will be both satisfied you went to see this movie and astonished. You know who you are, you know you got those discerning thoughts running through your mind from time to time especially when you sat there in the movie theater watching all the little details and the tools those butchers used to decapitate each victims or in your case each subjects.
Note to self: stay away from Hostels in Foreign Countries especially European Countries unless you know for a fact you are not worth half a penny to be killed for, you know that you will be more of a dissatisfaction than pleasure to get tortured for fun.
The Messengers: A family of four moved in a Country side house, that required minor repairs to be done. Little did they know there was more to the house that meets the eyes.
The family who used to live in the house got murdered and some of the townspeople believed otherwise. They think that The Messengers picked up and left one day. After they welcome a complete stranger into their home, in order to help out with the farm once its harvest season, they start feeling the wrath of the underworld that was setting up house in their basement.
Halloween: Following the Halloween tradition this last addition to the horrifying tale of Mike Myers, the misunderstood child, is very unsettling just like the others. In this remake directed by Rob Zombie, they show you the harsh reality that Mike as a kid had to face.
A selfish, slutty older sister, a good for nothing guy living with his mother, a mother who has no time in her hands to give her ten year old boy the attention he needs because she's the money maker in the family. What a boy got to do, to get some affection? Pretty much, become bipolar. Halloween is bound to keep you entertained from start to finish. Halloween fans, you will get your money’s worth.
The Reaping: This movie was not as original as I would want it to be, as I felt I was embarqing into another anti-Christ/religion/cult movie (Prophecy). But it delivered some great scares, and I found myself jumpy throughout some parts of the movie. I did not like that little girl pissing blood or better yet having her period throughout half of the movie, it was creepy.
She was creepy and scary, but I started to sympathize with her once I found out the real story behind her predicament. This movie was worthwhile as it did not leave us with a typical happy ending!
28 Weeks later: In the same spirit as the prequel, this zombie thriller is even more puzzling and terrifying than the others, it actually has a plot that will make you tear a little.
If you are looking for gory flesh eating zombies this will make up for it. And if you are looking for flesh eating zombies that are actually gut wrenching scary, watch this movie!
The number 23: Anything that has the number three in it or the number six is supposed to be scary in my book. This movie did deliver the paranoia and the demented…I never thought Jim Carey could play a character like this since I always expect him to be the funny guy but he played the dark part successfully.
The movie revolves around the title significantly. We all have some obsessions, some of us obsesses over the little things in life, numbers, and so does Jim in this thriller. I loved it, check out the extras on the DVD, it's very informative and entertaining!
Grindhouse: Not everyone likes these kind of dark horror comedies, but I do, I crave them. On top of that, I love Quentin Tarantino, everything he does is great in my book, as a result, I just could not keep away. I enjoyed the faux commercials the most, I loved the idea of the femme fatale with a M4 Carbine for a leg.
Both stories were action-packed, demented and brilliantly put together. I don't know why some people are hating on Death Proof and others are hating on Planet Terror. Maybe it's because of the vapid dialogues in some scene but I sincerely think this double feature film was a fun experience to watch as it kept me on the verge of pissing my underpants from laughing too hard.

Top Thirteen Twisted Endings Horror Movies with the best taglines
Have you ever watched a movie that in the beginning did not entice you as much as it did towards the end (Sleepaway Camp), or was simply so captivating in the beginning and twisted your world with the ending as well (Sixth Sense, The Mist). Well, join the club, I have a passion for horror movies such as these. As a result, I don't care how bad the beginning of a movie may be, I have to watch it start to finish because you never know what the director has in store for you. There is a long list of movies with twisted endings that I have seen throughout the years, I picked thirteen out of the bunch to share with you all because I know you guys love a good mindfuck. Let me know what you think.

Frailty (2001): This movie gave me the creeps for weeks. It's so unusual, but it could really happen. I mean which side would you take? If a friend of yours told you his dad was visited by an archangel and he is appointed to cleanse people of evil with the help of otis: the axe. That friend tells you also that his little brother is being brain-watched by their dad; he strongly feels his dad should be committed to a psych ward because he might have lost some of his marbles to think of something like that and to actually do it. I mean that is really far-fetched, but think about it, how would you feel?
Twist: The father was not a serial killer guided by the devil but by God Himself. The oldest son, was not a believer, that is why he could not see the real evil in the people when the father touched them before he would kill them in the name of the Lord. The youngest brother became a man of the law, and continued to carry out his father's legacy, but the oldest brother became a deranged serial killer. The narrator of the story was the youngest brother who went to the FBI office assuming his older brother's name and demanding to speak to Agent Doyle, who was a murderer as well, and the whole purpose of his visit at the office was to cleanse agent Doyle of his evil ways, since he was on the list.
Tagline: Only demons should fear me...you are not a demon, are you?

Sleepaway Camp (1983): Okay this movie had some of the coolest kills in it, I mean there were some dull part but it was worth to watch it for the grand finale. Angela was one of the weirdest little girl you will encounter. You could tell something was not right with her. As a result, she was being picked on and bullied by almost everyone. Her cousin Ricky was very protective of her, along with his friend Paul who grew fonder of Angela by the days. But when the killings started, everyone suspected one person and one person only, Ricky.
Twist: Noone would have thought twice about innocent, awkward looking little Angela, who was in fact, the killer, but even worse, she was no little girl. Peter was Angela's sole surviving brother, when their father and Angela perished in a motorboat accident, Peter was sent to live with Auntie Martha whom wanted a little girl of her own since she already had Ricky. She dressed Peter like a girl, thusly, Peter assumed Angela's personalities and name. Peter snapped when everyone started bullying him at the camp and took revenge on them, and when Paul wanted to be closer to him (thinking he was a girl), he felt the need to fix him too, as he was clearly already disturbed when he was little, he and Angela found their father sharing his bed with another man.
Tagline: A perfect place to meet young girls, might just be the perfect place to die!

Saw (2004): Saw was one of these movies that you could never really predict how they could end. I tried, trust me, I tried to guess who was the mastermind behind the whole crazyness, but was it really craziness, he kills with a lesson. He wants people to take life more seriously, to be more grateful and more respectful towards their health, was that too bad? Well, yeah, when you put these people through hell and back to try to get redemption. I loved Saw, I just wished they stopped with just one sequel.
Twist: The person we all thought was the mastermind, the guy we thought was behind all of these deadly traps and tests was only a player as well, he had something to lose also. And to find out, the whole time, the rotten body on the floor, was in fact, the real mastermind, as he got up towards the end of the movie to exit the room (this scene right there sent chills up and down my spine as they showed you the flashbacks), the only survivor (Elwes) had cut off his foot and was trying to leave the room but the mastermind told him "game over" and locked the door behind him.
Tagline: How much blood would you shed to stay alive?

Psycho (1960): Marion Crane is on the run, she stole $400,000 from her employer in order to marry her lover, Sam. A cop is at her tail and she decides to stay in Bates Motel. She is invited by Mr. Bates to dinner. Marion learns that Bates leaves with his mom when she overhears Norman talking to his mother. In addition, she reveals her feelings about Mrs. Bates being overbearing and thinks that she should be in a home to Norman. After the dinner, she goes to her room, she decides to return the stolen money and gets in the shower, to only find herself getting stabbed to death by a woman.
Twist: Norman Bates is mentally ill. He killed his mom. He is in fact, the one killing everyone dressing up like his mother and assuming his mother's voice and mannerism.
Tagline: Don't give away the ending - It's the only one we have!

The Last House on the Left (2009): Mari Collingwood is the only daughter of the Collingwoods, she previously lost her brother, her parents are well to do. They go to their lake house for vacation every year. Mari decides to go visit a friend in town. She meets up with her friend and they decide to get some pot, and from that point on everything went for the worse.
Twist: Her best friend gets raped right in front of her, her kidnappers stop right around her house, the criminals take advantage of them, and leave them for dead. Unknowingly, the criminals go knock on Mari's parents door, and payback could not be any juicier for the Collingwoods.
Tagline: If bad people hurt someone you love, how far will you go to hurt them back?

The Wicker Man (1973): This story was very original at the time I first saw it, I was very much intrigued. Sergeant Howie receives an anonymous letter requesting his investigative skills on Summerisle, where a little girl named Rowan has dissapeared. The righteous man that SGT Howie is, he sets out to Summerisle to find out what happened to young Rowan. When he arrives to the island he quickly discovered that the inhabitants are a bunch of pagans who worshipped nature, believed in the supernatural and in sex gods, as opposed to believing in GOD. He thought these islanders were holding Rowan hostage to sacrife her to their gods in their Mayday festivities in order to get their island fruitful once again.
Twist: Rowan was never missing, she was just a bait for Howie to come to Summerisle willingly. Howie was a virgin, he didn't believe in sex before marriage, he was a devout Christian. As a result, the Islanders wanted to sacrife him as they believed his death would surely bring them fertility, and growth.
Tagline: Flesh to touch, flesh to burn...don't keep the Wicker Man waiting!

April Fool's Day (2008): The remake of the 1986 film of the same name. It did go straight to DVD but I liked the ending, it was very twisted. These rich kids think they can get away with murder when their prank killed, Milan, one of their friends, at a party where two rich siblings, Bitchy, Snotty Desiree and Hot Blaine were throwing for a friend. Nevertheless, exactly a year later, everyone that were at that party started dying. Desiree thought the killer was Milan's ghost coming back from the grave for revenge, or possibly she never even died. At the end, the two rich siblings were the only ones left alive tied to a chair.
Twist: They were playing a prank on Desiree, noone was dead except for Milan. To prove to Desiree that everything was a prank, Torrence who used props from her movie set for the pranks, pointed the gun at Desiree to show her that there were blank rounds not live ones in the chamber, instead ended up blowing Desiree's head off by accident. Or was it really an accident? The brother had planned this outcome all along.
Tagline: She has a killer party planned!

The Orphanage (2007): The story of a mother who cares so much for her son, that she will go where noone have ever went before just to be with him. Simon is Laura's adopted son, he is born with HIV positive but he doesn't know that yet. Laura moves Simon and her husband to her childhood home, an orphanage, she had bought in the hopes to make a home for disabled children. Simon sees ghosts and becomes friends with one named Tomas. Moreover, Laura is visited by an old lady named Benigna claiming she is a social worker, Benigna was in fact, a worker at the orphanage when Laura herself was a little girl. Laura pushes her out of her house, and Simon goes missing couple of days later. Months went by with no sign of Simon.
Twist: Laura discovers the bodies of her fellow orphan friends, and quickly pieces together that Benigna had killed them to avenge her disfigured son, Tomas, that they had caused to die by accident in the cave. The most gut-wrenching twist is to find that Laura had accidently killed Simon. Upon finding out, she commits suicide since she could not bare to live without him.
Tagline: No secrets stay locked away forever!

Identity (2003): Identity was one of the most mind-boggling movies I have ever seen. I loved the mystery, I knew it was building up to one of the best climaxes ever yet and it was. This serial killer has multiple personalities, he is about to be executed for his killing tendencies the next day, but his shrink calls up a meeting with all the big shots who has a say in this sociopath's future, and at the same time, the serial killer has a meeting in his head as well, in the hopes to narrow down the different personalities, to kill off the bad ones, and leave the good guy or gal standing at the end. Consequently, the serial killer gets transfered to a psych ward since his shrink proves his patient had been living with multiple personalities that he had successfully cured him of the bad ones, in his little exorcism exercise.
Twist: If only it could be that easy. They killed off the extra personalities but guess what, the good ones and half bad ones got killed off, the most maniacal one yet, that kills with no conscience and no remorse was the last one standing and we all know what that means.
Tagline: The secret lies within!

Carnival of Souls (1962): One of the first movies to touch that issue. I love dark movies, that plays with your mind with no fancy special effects, just you the viewer piecing everything together, piece by piece. Mary Henry was riding in a car with two other female friends, they got lured into race drag with another car that hits their car into the river. Mary is the sole survivor of the accident and leads a very cold and macabre life thereafter. She feels confused most of the time, as suspiscious, peculiar things seem to happen to her more and more.
Twist: Mary Henry was never a survivor, she was in fact dead, may be in the middle, fighting death, trying to be alive in her sub-conscious, she was indeed in between life and death in her mind. When death finally took her from this world, she was still fighting but before she knew it she was already gone.
Tagline: Is there death after life?

The Others (2001): This family is so peculiar. These kids have photosensitivity, they are allergic to sun rays. Their rooms have heavy curtains to prevent the sunlight to penetrate their rooms. Grace Stewart, the mother, dreaded living in this big house with her son, Nicholas and her daughter, Anne as she felt the house seemed more like a prison to her . With the arrival of three bizarre housekeepers, weird things started occuring. Occasionally, they felt they were living with ghosts in their house.
Twist: Grace went insane oneday over missing her husband who went to war and her kids gradually driving her over the egde. She killed herself after smothering her children with a pillow which makes them "The others" for any new owners of that house. They are in fact ghosts, along with the servants. After that recollection, ironically Grace vows to let noone take them out of that house.
Tagline: Do you believe in Ghosts? She didn't...

The Skeleton Key (2005): The supernatural in this movie was so close to home. I loved this movie despite the negative reviews. Carolyn is a caring aide played by Kate Hudson whom lost her dad, so she finds deep relief in helping the elderly and rejects death on her watch. She is hired to watch after Ben a stroke victim, who has little time left to live. Carolyn is given a skeleton key by Violet, Ben's wife, to gain access to every room in the manor, except for one. Carolyn grows more curious by the minute while living in the manor and start to investigate the premises for foul play in Ben's current state of health. She feels Violet has a lot to do with Ben's health deteriorating. She thinks Violet is trying to kill Ben with the help of Hoodoo, and Luke, the lawyer who was hired to rewrite Ben and Violet's wills.
Twist: Carolyn was right about one thing, Luke was in fact helping Violet, certainly not to kill Ben, but to give Carolyn a reason to stay in the manor (sex appeal), since Carolyn is the sole target for now, not Ben anymore. Violet and Ben were not really who they said they were deep inside. Papa Justice and Mama Cecile were two renowned Hoodoo practionners who used Violet and Ben's bodies to logde their souls long time ago. As they are growing older, they needed younger bodies for their souls, hence, Papa Justice already occupied the young lawyer's body and Carolyn was the prospected body for Mama Cecile to which she lured Carolyn to believe in Hoodoo, and to think she was after Ben when all the while she wanted Carolyn's body. Mama Cecile and Papa Justify got what they were after, new vessels for their souls, and Carolyn's soul went to Violet's stroke ridden body.
Tagline: Fearing is believing!
It's a tie! I have two horror movies in the top place I can't seem to choose which one should be the top most twisted ending ever in the history of horror movies, so I chose both, I hope you guys can understand.
The Sixth Sense (1999): One of my favorite movies of all times. "I see dead people" was one of the things Cole had the guts to reveal to his child psychologist, Crowe. Crowe is very good at what he does, but he had one failure in his career, Vincent, a patient who broke into his house one night, shot him in the stomach and shot himself in the head afterwards. As a result, Crowe is determined to help Cole with his situation and tells Cole that the ghosts that he sees have unfinished businesses, they need his help to cross over. As he helps Cole to use his talent as a mean to help the dead cross over to the other side, Cole helps him as well in ways you would have never imagined.
Twist: Cole said "sometimes, they don't know if they are dead" to Crowe, he was talking about Crowe. Cole helps Crowe understand when Vincent shot him in the stomach, he died that night, his unfinished business was the only thing holding him back from going on the other side. He had to help another frightened, troubled little boy into accepting his gift and making good use of it, and he had to tell his wife, she was never second in his life. Now if anyone tells me they saw that coming in "The Sixth Sense", you're a huge liar!
Tagline: Not every gift, is a blessing!
The Mist (2007): I know some of you, we'll be like the ending of this movie was not twisted. Well, an unnatural mist sets up over Bridgton, Maine. The creatures concealed by this mist are otherworldly. David and his son, Billy, and their estranged neighbor Brent all went to the supermarket leaving David's wife stephanie back at the house. While in the supermarket Dan Miller runs in the store with a bloody nose explaining to the patrons the mist has vicious creatures lurking in it. The fate of these patrons are not secured they could all die one by one, if they try to leave and go out in the mist, or they could wait it out in the store. Either way, strange things are bound to happen to them.
Twist: David, his son Billy, and three others make it out alive to a car in the parking lot and set out to drive away from the mist. But they run out of gas. I am thinking, just wait it out, they have come this far. The most gut-wrenching scene was only seconds to come. Since they feel they won't make it out alive, they are trapped in the car in the middle of the mist, there is no way out. Therefore, David and the others agree for him to end their lives instead of getting shred to pieces by some vicious creatures, So David kills them all, including his own son while he was just waking up. Oooops, there were only four rounds in the chamber. David accepts his fate as he exits out of the car, the mist starts to clear up and there comes to save the day, the military with their arsenal, and truckloads of survivors.
Tagline: Fear changes everything!
